She underscored that the UAE is exerting concerted efforts to provide unlimited humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable migrant and deprived children in all humanitarian, health, education fields, as well as clothing and food, citing that the volume of UAE humanitarian aid over the last 18 months stood at AED1billion, paid to the UAE Red Crescent Authority in form of different humanitarian assistance, especially to Syria.
Al Qubaisi said the UAE has also launched a number of campaigns on children, among others, Dubai Cares campaign to provide clean drinking water to children, including the campaign from “Emirati Children to Syrian Children” to ensure children of the developing countries have access to basic rights such primary education, infrastructure, feeding, water and other amenities. It provides the assistance to over 7 million beneficiaries in 28 countries.
She also referred to the campaign of H. H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on virtual network (Arab Women Network in Diaspora”, to provide data on Arab women abroad and facilitate the communication among them.
Al Qubaisi said that the UAE parliamentary division stressed the need for parliament members to urge their governments to adhere to the international laws regarding the rights of migrants, and adoption of the IPU of bilateral and multilateral agreements to protect the migrant children.
She added that the UAE parliamentary division hoped the parliaments would expand social security networks to include most of the poor families, who are prompted to encourage their children to migrate for economic reasons. The governments should also adopt plans to fight poverty and improve dire economic situation.
Al Qubaisi called on UNICEF to review the laws protecting migrant children without their guardians referred to in The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and The United Nations International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
